|* Eighth expert committee meeting on Leprosy hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, Oct. 11-19, 2010. Persons on the committee were from India, China, Japan, England, USA, Brazil, Scotland, Mozambique, France, and Switzerland. This is the first expert meeting since 1948 that a person affected by leprosy was one of the "experts."

|* Louisiana State University alumni magazine featured Jose as an alumni who is leading the way against leprosy.

|* The city newspaper featured Jose and his wife Magdalena in their weekly “Love Stories” feature. Their love through Jose’s diagnosis and treatment serves as an inspiration for many.

|* Commemorating two important events - the day in 1941 when a group of residents at the leprosarium in Carville, Louisiana started on the treatment with sulfones which proved to be the first form of cure for this illness; and the closing of this same leprosarium in 1999.
